Rosacea Curing Tips

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Rosacea is a condition most often seen as redness of the face and neck. The causes of this condition can be numerous but treatment is available. There are many different symptoms of rosacea and each requires a different approach to treatment.

Symptoms of rosacea can be different for everyone who has the condition. Redness of the face and neck that looks like sunburn is the most common. Other signs include dry facial skin, tiny red bumps or pimples, red lines on the face, and itching, stinging, or burning of the face.

There are many things that can be done naturally to help ease the symptoms. Being able to identify the cause is important. Does being outdoors on a cold, blustery day or being in a hot, steamy kitchen trigger symptoms to appear? Keeping a diary of when and how these symptoms occur may help in gaining control over the situation.

When heat seems to be a cause for flair-up, try to control how much time is spent in it. Minimize exposure to the sun by staying in the shade, wearing wide-brimmed hats, and using a sunscreen of SPF 30 or more. Exercising can cause one to become overheated. Look for exercise spots that are cool. Try taking breaks or do low intensity workouts and allow yourself to cool down.

Be aware of the food and drinks that can cause flair-up. Such culprits might include alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods, even certain vegetables or fruits.

Stress is a very common trigger. Learn stress reduction and relaxation techniques and get adequate amounts of sleep. Find activities that can help reduce stress such as reading or hobbies. These can help take your mind off of the things that are causing you stress.

Avoid chemicals which can cause irritation such as alcohol or fragrance. Skin care is very essential in treating rosacea symptoms. Sensitive skin is an issue and a lot of skin care products can cause irritation such as toners, astringents, and make-up remover.

There are quite a few medications that can help with the treatment of rosacea. Antibiotics and topical ointments are the most common. Surgically, there are laser treatments, electrocautery, and dermabrasion to consider.

It is important to apply medication to a dry face. Applying medication when the face is wet can cause burning and irritation. Also remember to apply medication before applying sunscreen or make-up, this makes it more effective.
